Children bounced on giant trampolines, made a ‘Newtown’ mural and had their faces painted. Adults planted hanging baskets, checked their health and decorated their hands with mhendi. Everyone enjoyed trying different cultural foods provided by local restaurants.
On the stage there were amazing performances from Dewayne, Spartan,Young Disciples, Anaiah, Tricks, DHD and the Beatbox Twins as well as impromptu performances from other talented local dancers, all hosted by Charmaine from Newstyle radio.
Councillor Afzal and Councillor Khan were at the start of the Fun Run and presented goody bags to all who participated. Ryan from Continental Star FC sprinted ahead and gained first place by a good margin.
This was a genuine community day, where everyone pulled together to give something back to Newtown. What’s more, lots of people are keen to get involved in local initiatives in the area, including becoming a street champion, joining a residents’ group and planning a bigger community event next year!
